frequently asked questions
Here are some questions we get asked often - if you don’t see what you’re looking for, ask us!
What type of projects do you host?
We’re open to whatever you've got in mind and are here to meet you exactly where you are. From folk artists to rock bands, first-timers to studio veterans —we’ve hosted it all. Sill & Glade is perfect for bands looking to get away to record an album, folks looking to track live drums in a great sounding room, songwriters looking for a cozy, vibey space to record, or for video projects with pro audio. CJ especially loves recording and mixing drums and electric guitar with effects, but he’s all in on any project that he's working on.
Do you have recommended videographers, photographers, etc?
Yep! We have a list of awesome folks we love working with. We're happy to consult on who might be the best fit, and you'll coordinate the details directly with them.
I need a few folks to fill in for my session, can you help with that?
Absolutely! The valley is full of insanely talented musicians, and we’d love to connect you with the right people for your project. You’ll handle the details from there.
Where are you located?
We’re in Mount Solon, Virginia - 30 minutes from Harrisonburg, 1 hour from Charlottesville, and 2 hours from Richmond and Washington, DC.
We’re also just 5 minutes from the George Washington National Forest’s North River Gorge, packed with hiking, fishing, and swimming spots. Every client gets a detailed neighborhood guide with our favorite local spots.

The kitchen is available to use . Other food options are 15-30 minute drive.
Is there a discount if I book multiple days?
Yep! We have discounted rates for longer, multi-day projects.
Can I bring my own engineer?
Of course! If you and your team want a fresh setting to work in, we’re all for it. We’ll help you get set up with the space and gear, then step back so you can do your thing.
What does “in-house producer/engineer” mean?
If you need an engineer or producer, co-owner CJ Metz is available. That can look like:
Tracking/Recording: You bring fully written songs, and we handle all the behind-the-scenes magic: mic setup, room layout, DAW management, and critical listening.
Production: You have a song idea and a vision. We help build, edit, and organize the track—even adding tones, effects, and parts as needed.
What do I leave with at the end of a session?
We'll send you home with:
A rough static mix (basic levels + panning) as an mp3
All raw recorded tracks transferred to your external hard drive
do you offer mixing services?
Yes, it's a separate service! Mixing is what brings the song to life—balancing levels, adding effects, fine-tuning dynamics, and creating depth. It’s a collaborative process with revisions to make sure you love the final result. We mostly mix projects recorded here at Sill & Glade, but we’re happy to work with outside tracks too!
do you offer mastering services?
We don't offer mastering services our selves, but have some go-to recommendations for engineers are are fast, easy to work with and do amazing work.
